However, Iverius et al. found that both the purified lipoprotein lipase and the crude preparation of the enzyme contained small amounts of endogenous heparin-like material, further indicating that heparin may be part of, or bound to, the protein. Although the precise role of heparin in lipoprotein lipase metabolism is not known, the above experiments indicate the following effects of this polyanion.
