The usage in Deuteronomy 23:16 (E 15) is particularly apropos. ‫ּגָ ֤לּות ְׁש ֵל ָמ ֙ה‬. The direct object. The adjective ‫“( ָׁש ֵלם‬whole, complete”) suggests that an entire community was seized and carried off into slavery. ‫ ֶל ֱא ֔דֹום‬. Prepositional phrase with ‫ ְל‬. As in 1:6, Edom is the recipient of the captured slaves. It is perhaps noteworthy that places from which these slaves were taken is not indicated in the text. One might assume that they are snatched from Israel or Judah, but the text does not say this.

This line forms a chiasmus with the previous line. ‫וְ ֻח ָּק ֙יו‬. Direct object with 3 m s suffix and conjunction; it paral- lels ‫יְהוה‬ ָ֗ ‫ת־ּתֹורת‬ ַ ‫ ֶא‬, and the antecedent to the suffix is ‫יְהוָ ה‬. ‫ ֣ל ֹא ָׁש ָ֔מרּו‬. Negated qal qatal 3 c p of ‫שׁמר‬. 2:4c: Second Strophe. 2 lines. As in the Edom oracle, this strophe, headed by a wayyiqtol, constitutes a secondary accusation. ‫יהם‬ ֶ֔ ‫עּום ִּכזְ ֵב‬ ֙ ‫ וַ ּיַ ְת‬A2a 2:4c ‫יהם׃‬ ֽ ֶ ‫בֹותם ַא ֲח ֵר‬ ֖ ָ ‫ר־ה ְל ֥כּו ֲא‬ ָ ‫ ֲא ֶׁש‬A2b Line A2a: The colon-marker is zaqeph qaton and the constraints are: 1 predicator, 2 constituents, and 2 units.
